CURRENTS //
ÖLDUGANGUR
Currents / Öldugangur is a research-based art project in the form of reliefs and wall-mounted sculptures, exploring currents — both energetic and existential — as visual and emotional phenomena. The work combines organic forms and metallic surfaces in a space where motion and stillness meet in rich texture and depth.
Process
The pieces are handcrafted using sculptural techniques where wood and clay are shaped, sanded, and worked until they resemble frozen waves or ripples on the surface of water. By creating the works as wall-mounted pieces, the boundary between painting and sculpture is explored — a visual image that demands the viewer’s movement within the space.
Inspiration
The inspiration stems from nature — particularly the sea, currents, and surface movements that mirror the inner states of human beings. Waves, ripples, and flow are used as metaphors for emotion, time perception, and transformation. The works reference boundaries: between strength and vulnerability, between natural form and human touch, between matter and energy.
